Barring some small tweaks, the design of the game is identical to From Software’s original. The core mechanics are unchanged, the enemies are placed in the same positions and behave in the same ways, the devious tricks and traps are still there, ready to catch the unfamiliar off-guard. Companies have slowly been dipping their toes into a $70 price for new games, so this might be the end of the $60 standard. Hopefully PC games will still get a slight discount in some cases, but regardless, there’s always the next Steam sale. This new version of Demon’s Souls is being developed by Bluepoint Games, seemingly without From Software’s collaboration.

Ranged combat in FromSoftware titles is something of an acquired taste. For those with that craving though, the Lava Bow in Demon’s Souls is definitely worth their time and attention. Playing in the best and most artistic way possible puts you in a dark and stressful world with a high degree of difficulty and challenges you, but as much as it is challenging and punishing, it is also rewarding. Sound effects are excellent, and the sounds that spells make are simply fantastic. I could listen to them all day, and players will get a huge dose of nostalgia as they are summoned into another player’s world to the ever familiar chime. No complaints here, but you will note this means some sounds are different from what you remember.

Hidden in the failes of Demon’s Souls for PlayStation 5 are four still undiscovered items not appearing in the original release.

Digital Foundry also noted that shadow quality has improved on the PS5 Pro. They suggested that contact shadows have been implemented, enhancing the overall quality of shadows. However, the game does not seem to include other improvements, such as ray tracing.

Demon’s Souls has archstones that players can use to fast-travel to the Nexus, a hub world where they do their leveling, purchase items, and more. Archstones are far rarer than bonfires, oftentimes only appearing in areas where players have defeated one of the game’s many powerful bosses. The lack of bonfires means that Demon’s Souls has far less checkpoints and it’s also more difficult to level grind in this game compared to the titles that followed. Whether or not one appreciates the additional challenge is up to personal preference, but it does make the game even more intense.
